A very real lack of wargaming

2025 has started off much as 2024 panned out....pretty dire in places with the odd bright spark. Having given up the editorship of Slingshot in December, I thought I might have been able to do a bit more actual wargaming this year but so far really not much at all. I cant remember the last time I picked up a paint brush and havent properly gamed either.

Mitigating circumstances (sound like excuses!) are that in January I started working full time as a contractor consultant (yawn) in brewing (Ooooh) so including travel time, my week is very full and the weekends spent in family catch up mode. In February I learned that I had a serious heart issue that I am still coming to terms with and in fact have surgery booked in for next week to fix a couple of my arteries that are blocked. As an aside, if I dont make any further entries into this blog, assume surgery went badly and that I have paid the ferryman (also dont let my wife throw out my wargaming figures...sell them!). Lastly, my father in law passed away suddenly last month and we are still knee deep in sorting everything out.

Basically, I put my lack of wargming down to the fact that I get tired alot and I get a bit grumpy and I am still working flat out so I should be a little bit more forgiving to myself. Still, I've managed to put this entry into the blog, more as a journal type reminder for me to look back on. Hopefully the rest of 2025 will improve....and I am really hoping to at least get to one wargame show this year if at all possible.

Right...where did I put my dried frog pills?

  1. Wow Dave, things don't happen in halves, do they! Very sorry to hear of your troubles and the sad loss of your father-in-law. As I recall you lost your mother-in-law fairly recently as well. It must be quite a change in your and your wife's lives.

Hoping that all goes well with your procedure and that things will be looking up after that.

In the meantime, don't be too tough on yourself. The paints and figures will wait until you're ready, and will not reproach you!

Sending best wishes to you and yours,
    Aaron
